monumental 17th-century oak bookcase/writing desk/writing desk from the liège region, carved in oak. The front opens with six doors, three glazed and one hinged, revealing a superb glazed interior all around, in a "parclose" style, with sculpted ornamentation on the glass. The upper section features a double gendarme's hat (a type of decorative arch), topped with a pediment. The rounded sides and moldings on the sides and front create generous forms that give a striking impression of abundance to this masterpiece of cabinetmaking.
