The Custom Sized Round Reclaimed Wood Lath Table Top by GregoDesigned is a handcrafted statement piece built from 100-year-old architectural salvage sourced directly from historic Chicago homes.
The Story & Materials
-Historic Provenance: Built entirely from century-old plaster lath salvaged from old Chicago walls during renovations.
-Natural Dynamic Color: The wood's distinctive multi-tonal look occurs entirely naturally. Lighter, grayish strips absorbed color from the original plaster, while deeper brown tones aged naturally within the inner wall cavities.
-Functional Art: Rather than just a piece of furniture, the top acts as a conversation piece that preserves structural history.
Craftsmanship & Construction
-Handmade Precision: The lath is lightly sanded to maintain its rugged saw texture and patina while remaining smooth to the touch.
-Seamless Assembly: The back side of each lath strip is planed down to a uniform thickness, and the edges are jointed to minimize gaps. It is then glued and pin-nailed to a void-free plywood substrate.
-Industrial Durability: The finished top is edged in matching lath and sealed with five coats of natural, eco-friendly PolyWhey satin floor finish to handle daily family use.
This custom table top is handmade, using 100 year old reclaimed wood lath from Chicago homes. You can choose the diameter and pattern to meet your specific needs to use with your own base. Because the wood was inside walls for so many years, each piece took on a different color, making each piece unique and beautiful. The lighter colored and grayish lath had the plaster attached to it and the darker brown toned lath was exposed to the inside of the wall. The lath is lightly sanded to maintain its unique texture and color, back side is planed down to a uniform thickness and the edges are jointed to minimize gaps in the pattern. The lath is glued and pin nailed to a void free plywood substrate that is edged in more lath. The table top is sealed with five coats of natural PolyWhey satin floor finish to protect against daily use. This statement piece table is beautiful and durable, sure to stand the test of time with your family.
