Artist Michael DesRosiers creates paintings, mixed-media works, and welded aluminum sculptures. Noted for his ability with color, DesRosiers' non-objective art is as in tune with nature as it is with the complexities of the human psyche. This artist has spent decades in the studio refining his unique sensibility, one that combines the authenticity of the abstract idiom with the emotional impact of vivid color. His work has been widely exhibited in galleries and at international art fairs.
DesRosiers begins this painting on a cradled MDF panel by preparing the 12-inch by 24-inch support with multiple coats of acrylic gesso. The artist then applies multiple coats of acrylic paint, making marks unique to his hand in the wet pigment. DesRosiers interlocks the successive layers by applying intermediate glazes of translucent paint, one application to the next. The result is a seamless image that transcends its component stratifications of paint. To complete the piece, multiple coats of MSA varnish are applied for both performance and protection.
This green over a complex yellow underpainting on a cradled MDF panel is from artist Michael DesRosiers’s ongoing series Marked Fields, a collective of works where the pleasure of the intuitive hand is conjoined with the operative experience of this abstract artist. Linearities of various widths reach across the composition, twisting together as they find their way in and out of the resulting entanglement. As reflective as this non-objective work could be of the fundamental workings of nature, the artist sees them as fingerprints of consciousness, the interior state within the mind where absorbed experience is recorded in an infinite array of possibilities.
The artwork is intentionally unframed, allowing the characteristic dripped edges to not only reveal the process of the painting but also serve as the intermediary between the forward-facing composition and the wall.
This painting on cradled MDF is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity from the artist.
