An extraordinary and rare set of three wall sconces attributed to Paolo Piva for Gallotti & Radice, Italy, circa 1970s, executed in thick structural glass and metal. Gallotti & Radice stands among the most significant Italian design manufacturers of the 20th century, renowned for pioneering the architectural use of heavy glass in both lighting and furniture — a language shared with contemporaries such as Fontana Arte, yet distinguished by its rigorous geometry and industrial precision. This set exemplifies the company’s exploration of modular glass construction: each sconce is composed of multiple vertical glass bars with a distinctive green-blue cast, often described in period production as “acqua” structural glass. The individual elements — each measuring approximately 4.5 × 2.7 cm in cross section — are arranged symmetrically around the central light source, forming a faceted prism that refracts and amplifies illumination with strong architectural presence. Each sconce measures 45 cm high × 13 cm wide × 9.5 cm deep and houses dual bulbs. The interaction between the thick glass planes and the light source produces a layered, atmospheric glow and nuanced shadow effects on the wall. The substantial depth and weight of the glass immediately convey its structural nature: this is solid architectural glass, not decorative plate, characteristic of Gallotti & Radice’s most refined lighting productions of the era. The wiring is original and currently functioning; however, professional rewiring is recommended for contemporary safety standards. The glass elements are in excellent vintage condition and show no chips, cracks, or structural defects. The metal components, including the internal structure, display a natural patina consistent with age, as clearly visible in the detailed photographs. This oxidation and surface wear contribute to the authenticity and period character of the pieces. Paolo Piva (1950–2017) collaborated with Gallotti & Radice during the 1970s and 1980s, contributing to some of the manufacturer’s most collectible designs, balancing material density with minimalist rigor. The formal restraint, structural clarity, and disciplined geometry of this rare triptych place it credibly within that context. A highly collectible and uncommon set, ideal for discerning collectors of Italian modern lighting and architectural glass design. This piece is attributed to the mentioned designer/maker. It has no attribution mark and no
official proof of authenticity,
however it is well documented in design history. I take full responsibility for any authenticity
