A luminous sculptural study in bronze and pâte de verre by French artist Yves Lohé (b. 1947), titled Le Vent (The Wind). The composition renders a woman's profile in motion, her hair captured as flowing, translucent glass paste in a warm peach and amber palette with delicate green veining, swept back into gestural bronze forms.
Lohé's work is defined by this fusion of two very different disciplines. He trained under Abel Bataillard, revered in Paris as the "Maître Ferronnier de Pigalle" (Master Ironworker of Pigalle), building a career in wrought iron before establishing his own bronze workshop in 1979. In 1991, a meeting with master glassmaker Werner Manesse introduced him to pâte de verre, and Lohé developed the technique that defines his mature work: solid bronze carrying structure and movement, paired with hand-worked colored glass carrying light and transparency. The result is a body of work exhibited throughout France and internationally, prized for its unusual marriage of weight and weightlessness.
This example is signed "LOHE" on the bronze base and presents beautifully from every angle, with the glass paste catching and diffusing light in a way that shifts throughout the day.
A wonderful statement piece for a console, mantel, or gallery shelf — substantial enough to anchor a vignette, refined enough to hold its own in a considered collection.
