Antique U.S. Hame Co. Buffalo NY Mule Hames – Original Wooden & Iron Harness Pair c.1900–1925 – Rustic Farmhouse Wall Decor
Bring over a century of American agricultural history into your home with this authentic pair of antique mule hames manufactured by the U.S. Hame Company of Buffalo, New York, one of America's premier harness makers during the early twentieth century. Clearly stamped "U.S. Hame Co., Buffalo, N.Y." and "Mule," these original hames once formed the rigid wooden and iron frame that attached a harness to a mule's collar, transferring pulling power to wagons, plows, and farm equipment.
Today, they make an exceptional decorative statement. Their sculptural shape, warm honey-colored hardwood, hand-forged black iron hardware, and contrasting brass ball tips create a striking piece of Americana equally at home in a modern farmhouse, mountain cabin, western lodge, equestrian home, restaurant, brewery, or rustic commercial space.
This pair retains wonderful originality and honest working wear developed over decades of farm use. The wood has aged to a rich amber patina, the iron hardware remains solid with its original black finish, and the brass tips display naturally different levels of oxidation—one brighter and one more mellow—adding character rather than detracting from authenticity. The original leather neck strap is still present and displays expected age-related dryness.
The maker's stamp remains clearly visible:
U.S. Hame Co.
Buffalo, N.Y.
Mule
One hame measures approximately 27 inches in length while the other measures approximately 29 inches, suggesting they may have been paired together during their working life. They display beautifully together and present as an authentic antique working set.
Dimensions
One hame: approximately 27 inches long
Second hame: approximately 29 inches long
Condition
Very good antique condition with expected wear consistent with more than 100 years of agricultural use. Original hardwood with beautiful patina, solid iron hardware, and original brass ball tips. The brass tips exhibit different levels of oxidation, with one brighter than the other. Original leather connector remains intact but is dry from age. One hame is slightly longer than the other, likely the result of a period replacement during its working life. Please review all photographs carefully, as they form part of the description.

Styling Ideas

They also look beautiful incorporated into gallery walls featuring vintage farm tools, wooden yokes, or antique wagon equipment.
