This substantial coffee table came home with them from their mid-20th century travels through India and has anchored living rooms in our family for decades. Made from sheesham from the looks of it — Indian rosewood — it is genuinely heavy, immovably solid, and built with the kind of honest craftsmanship that simply isn't replicated today. The rectangular planked top sits above a carved apron with iron nailhead detail and corner iron braces; the four turned baluster legs are classic to the Indian vernacular tradition of the late 19th to early 20th century.
There is a minor chip to one corner of the table, and the surface bears the warm patina of a well-lived life — marks, grain variation, the small imperfections that confirm this is the original finish, not a reproduction. Everything structural is tight and sound.
At 47"W × 24"D × 18"H, this works as a primary coffee table in most living rooms and has the visual weight to anchor a larger seating arrangement. The warm teak tones work naturally alongside leather, linen, and natural fiber rugs. The prayer flags were a gift and can be included. See less
