Some pieces carry stories. This one traveled.
This small but striking accent table was collected during my grandparents' travels through India in the mid-20th century and has been in our family ever since. Crafted from solid teak with characteristically turned baluster legs, the table's most remarkable feature is its inset glass top — set into a reclaimed antique brass window grate with hand-wrought iron geometric patterning and delicate floral motifs. The grate itself is the centerpiece: an artifact of Indian architectural heritage, repurposed here as a display element beneath glass, giving the piece extraordinary visual depth.
The construction is heavy and exceptionally solid — this is not decorative furniture, it's working furniture built to last generations. The weathered, unpainted finish tells its age honestly. Minor surface wear throughout, consistent with a piece of genuine character and use.
At 19"W × 23"D × 16"H, this is best understood as an accent table, end table, or plant stand rather than a primary side table — the proportions are intimate and the height is low. It would be equally at home beside a reading chair (where I kept it), on a covered patio, or as a standalone accent in an entryway.
