The Savage Race by Douglas C. Jones was published by Harper Collins, 1994. The novel begins in 1808 as Boone Fawley moves his family to the Arkansas wilderness, detailing their conflicts with the Osage and Cherokee, dangerous fur traders, and the devastating 1811 earthquake, before they eventually settle and prosper near Little Rock.
Harry Schaare was a prolific artist for hard and softcover books. He designed covers for Zebra Publishing, Harper Collins, Kensington Publishing Co., Jove, and others. He also did magazine work for Saturday Evening Post, Boy's Life, Sports Illustrated, and various men's adventure magazines. He always retained the original paintings.
