Sometimes it's the little things that fill a room with history. This three-piece collector's cup and saucer set from the renowned weimar porzellan kahla porcelain factory bears the hallmarks of a time when porcelain was not merely a utilitarian object, but an expression of design and craftsmanship. The intense ruby red, the delicate white lines, and the geometric decoration still appear remarkably modern today, while simultaneously evoking the elegant design language of the post-war decades.
the set was discovered in thuringia – carefully wrapped and preserved for many decades. The extraordinary pattern immediately catches the eye. A rhythmic network of white lines overlays the warm red background, enlivened by small white floral dots. At the center, the decoration opens like a stylized flower, lending each piece of the set a harmonious balance.
what's particularly charming is that the pattern extends not only to the plate and saucer, but also adorns the inner rim of the cup. This detail only fully unfolds when drinking – a subtle surprise that reveals the high design standards of the porcelain manufactory of that era.
this tea service likely dates from the late 1950s to the early 1970s. A characteristic feature is the decorative engobe painting, in which colored ceramic slips were applied before the glaze firing. This creates an exceptional depth of color and a surface whose vibrancy has been preserved even after decades.
the conical cup sits comfortably in the hand and holds approximately 180 ml. Together with the matching saucer and the generously sized cake plate, it forms a harmonious set for coffee, tea, or small desserts. The vibrant red color makes a deliberate statement and harmonizes with scandinavian, mid-century, vintage, or modern interiors.
the set is in very good condition. Minimal signs of age-related wear underscore the piece's authenticity without detracting from its overall appearance. There are no cracks or major damage.
whether as a decorative standalone piece, a gift for lovers of east german design, or an addition to a high-quality porcelain collection – this dinner service combines timeless design with the history of one of the gdr's most important porcelain manufacturers.
