This is a large-scale vintage original oil on canvas painting titled "El Mercado" (Mexican Market Scene), by Leon Belaunzarán. It features his style of a heavy impasto palette-knife texture and dynamic paint splatters.

Artist:
Leon Belaunzarán (Mexican, born 1944) is well-known for capturing the bustling energy of traditional Mexican street markets - using an abstract impressionist style. He applied thick oil paints (called impasto) to represent colorful market awnings, hanging fruits, and crowds of people. The drips and splashes you see were his way of adding movement and life to the scene.

Frame: Custom framed in 1999 in Boca Raton, Florida. Aluminum Frame, 4 Distinct Sections Locked Together: Slim Base, Large Sloped Riser, Flat Landing, and Inner Sloped. Listed price is for the artwork and frame.

Provenance: Private Owner. I inherited this painting from my mother, who was the original owner. She purchased this painting at an art show - she also collected Native American Pottery, prints by Latin American and Mexican artists, Studio Pottery, Italian bronze hand made sculptures and hand-carved wood African masks and figures.
The photo showing the painting hanging on the wall over a MCM buffet was taken in my mother's home.
