A piece of extraordinary refinement and undeniable historical value, ideal for embellishing ceremonial tables, enhancing stately spaces, or enhancing a collection of vintage silverware.
subject and style: an elegant centerpiece basket supported by a circular base and featuring a sturdy, twisted handle. The profile is finished with a classic corded edge, while the inner bowl boasts a rich and intricate engraving of floral and plant motifs.
material and markings: the object is crafted from solid metal with a thick silver plating. The bottom features the manufacturer's hallmarks: a series of figurative shields (including letters and symbols) typical of the anglo-saxon silversmithing tradition, used by master silversmiths to certify the high quality of the plating. The model serial number "2276" is stamped next to the hallmarks.
historical detail (engraving): what makes this centerpiece a unique piece of great prestige and rarity is the finely engraved dedication in the center of the handle: "presented to w & mc august 12, 1893." this precious inscription allows us to correct the dating and place the object with absolute certainty at the end of the 19th century (specifically, 1893, not the 20th century), linking it to a real celebratory event from the past.
