The gorilla has realistic details in its facial features and posture. The piece bears the "Ronzan" signature on the base and dates to the Mid-Century Modern period. The "Ceramiche Artistiche Ronzan" company was founded in Turin in 1939 by Antonio Ronzan, together with his brothers Giovanni and Giuseppe, after they had worked at the prestigious Lenci factory. Ronzan's sculptures are prized for their naturalism and attention to detail, particularly when it comes to animal subjects (such as dogs, cats, and primates) and human figures. The glossy, glazed finish of the white gorilla shown here exemplifies their technical mastery. Today, vintage pieces from the Ronzan manufactory are highly sought after by collectors of 20th-century Italian art ceramics. See less
