Handwoven in a wool flatweave, originating circa 1950-1960, this 9x10 vintage Turkish kilim is an excellent example of the slit weave and is dense with colors that have aged beautifully for its period.
On the Design:
This personal vintage piece is meant to catch the eye, yet still so atypical in its color and design choices that are so complementary to each other making it a comfortable, and inviting piece. Admirers of the craft may admire this as one of our new favorite examples in Kilims of the mid-20th century for sure—made with a red dye that’s aged beautifully, as have the vibrant hues in the geometric patterns and black in the borders. We have seen very few pieces like this, woven from two large pieces into one with the color being such a star—one of the richest reds with that gorgeous patina abrash that we love. Its size is particularly versatile, as few Kilims let alone vintage Kilims and especially open field Kilims enjoy such dimensions—extremely decorative, lending to so many spaces and concepts.
Condition:
This vintage Turkish kilim enjoys great condition for its age and origin. It is a very collectible piece and is ready for the floor.
