Mercuri's celebrated work *costumes historiques des xiiie, xive et xve siècles*. These finely executed lithographs were issued by the renowned parisian publishers goupil & vibert and were drawn from authentic monuments, paintings, sculptures, and manuscript sources. The collection presents a fascinating cross-section of medieval society, including noblemen, ladies of the court, knights, warriors, clergy, scholars, and ceremonial figures. Each costume is rendered with remarkable attention to period dress, heraldic details, armor, fabrics, and accessories. The hand coloring remains fresh and attractive, highlighting the rich reds, greens, golds, and blues characteristic of medieval court attire. The plates were intended not only as artistic works but also as scholarly reconstructions of historical dress, making them important documents in the early study of costume history. During the nineteenth century, such publications played a significant role in the gothic revival movement and inspired artists, designers, architects, theater productions, and collectors throughout europe. Presented together, the ten plates create a beautiful visual survey of medieval life and costume. Their elegant compositions, generous margins, and delicate hand coloring make them highly decorative when displayed as a group. The set would complement interiors ranging from traditional libraries and studies to contemporary spaces seeking historical character and color. Original examples from this publication are increasingly sought after by collectors of costume history, medieval art, fashion history, book illustration, and decorative prints. Unlike modern reproductions, these are genuine nineteenth-century impressions printed and hand-colored at the time of publication. Condition: good antique condition. Light age toning, scattered foxing and occasional minor handling marks consistent with age. Colors remain fresh and attractive. Wide margins. Please study the photographs carefully. Framing tips: exceptional as a gallery wall installation in two horizontal rows of five. Particularly attractive in dark walnut, ebonized, or gilt frames with ivory museum mats. The rich costume colors create a dramatic display when framed as a complete series. Technique: hand-colored lithographs maker: p.
