A beautifully restored American Renaissance Revival marble-top chest, believed to made between 1855-1875, showcasing the exceptional craftsmanship of the period.
Constructed from walnut, this elegant chest features hand-carved drawer pulls, hand-cut dovetail joinery, and its original 1-inch-thick white marble top. The upper two drawers retain their original functioning locks that were disassembled and cleaned. Comes with a brand new working key. The bottom drawer has a blank cover over the inside half mortise due to not being able to source the exact lock match. Hidden beneath the lower drawer is a concealed compartment—an uncommon feature traditionally used to safeguard valuable household items such as important documents, jewelry, or fine silver.
This piece has undergone an extensive, meticulous restoration by Hilaire Furniture Co., with great care taken to preserve its historical integrity. The chest was completely disassembled, thoroughly cleaned, refinished, and sealed inside and out. Each drawer was individually restored, resulting in smooth, even operation while maintaining the original hardware and craftsmanship. Aluminum drawer glides were added for smooth functionality and to eliminate future wood to wood wear that is common with antiques. Estimated restoration time: Over 100 hours of skilled craftsmanship.
