Conceptual inspiration: "pernod", new wave, and the celebration of irreverence
"alcolico" is a sculptural wall sconce that captures the rebellious spirit and electric energy of the italian new wave spanning the late 70s and early 80s. The artwork draws direct inspiration from the atmosphere of the track "pernod" by decibel (the historic band fronted by enrico ruggeri), transforming the ritual of a nocturnal toast into an avant-garde aesthetic statement. Italian designer dario nasuti deconstructs everyday objects—four elegant pure steel goblets—to reassemble them into a luminous organism with a kinetic, pop, and exquisitely industrial character.
the author and manufacturing process: from global luxury to functional art
conceived and entirely handcrafted in parma, within an impressive 300-sqm atelier and showroom located in the heart of the historic center, "alcolico" carries a unique design heritage. The constructive rigor and obsessive attention to detail derive from the designer's prestigious thirty-year career in the international luxury sector. This exceptional path, which began in 1992 and culminated in a decade leading onward luxury group as ceo until 2020—orchestrating collaborations with global fashion giants like donna karan—now translates into "functional art." in this new creative dimension, the absolute control of volumes typical of high fashion meets raw industrial material.
kinetic sculpture: an ever-changing masterpiece
unlike a static wall lamp, "alcolico" is conceived to physically interact with the observer and the space. The first goblet is firmly fixed to the steel wall plate, acting as a solid structural pillar. The other three goblets are interconnected through a sophisticated system of precision-screwed internal mechanical joints. This complex technical architecture allows you to rotate, tilt, and orient the three upper cups in infinite combinations, not only changing the silhouette of the sculpture but constantly redefining the direction of the light beams.
materials, finishes, and lighting engineering
craftsmanship meets brilliant lighting choices to create a theatrical and comfortable visual experience:
materials and wiring: steel wall plate and goblets, metal mechanical joints, internal ceramic lamp holders, and visible textile power cable. The electrical system is masterfully concealed within the series-connected goblets, creating a clean, seamless structure.
anti-glare engineering: the artwork is equipped with 4 x 3w warm-light led bulbs. Using special mirror-head chrome-domed bulbs is a precise design choice: the light is trapped, channeled, and reflected exclusively inside the steel cavity of the goblet. This releases a very soft accent lighting that never dazzles the observer, regardless of the angle given to the sculpture.
bespoke essence: the color contrast between the coldness of the steel and the pop explosion of electric energy is the author's signature. The prototype is enhanced by a neon green cable that emerges like a vital vein from the last goblet to connect to the wall plate. As this is a made-to-order piece, the designer offers the possibility to customize the chromatic accent by opting for high-impact textile cables, such as neon yellow or neon orange.
