Antique dome-top trunk (also commonly referred to as a camelback, barrel-top, or humpback trunk) dating from the late Victorian era, circa 1880–1900.
The "No-Stacking" Design: The distinct high, arched lid was a deliberate design feature intended to prevent baggage handlers on steamships and trains from stacking other heavy luggage on top of it. This helped protect the often intricate, fragile contents belonging to wealthier travellers.
The trunk is built from a wooden core (typically pine or oak) reinforced with hardwood slats and heavy iron or brass hardware. The body segments between the straps were typically wrapped in heavy canvas, paper-infused tin and leather.
Nice authentic condition in original aged features.
