West Pier - An enduring icon of the Brighton seafront, the West Pier stands as a poignant reminder of the relentless power of the sea. Though built from iron and engineered to withstand the elements, even the strongest structures cannot resist the effects of time and erosion forever. Designed by Eugenius Birch, the pier opened in 1866 and became the first pier in England to receive Grade I listed status. Since its closure to the public in 1975, it has gradually fallen into ruin, its skeletal remains becoming one of Britain’s most haunting coastal landmarks.
