Carefully rendered with scientific precision and artistic refinement, the print forms part of Karl Joseph Brodtmann's celebrated Naturhistorische Bilder-Gallerie aus dem Thierreiche, published in Lindau in 1816. The upper illustration features the Serval, a graceful African wild cat recognized by its exceptionally long legs, large ears, and beautifully spotted coat. Native to the grasslands and savannas of sub-Saharan Africa, the serval is one of the continent's most successful hunters, capable of locating prey through sound alone and making remarkable vertical leaps.
