Lovely pair of circa 1950's original ernest race ba3 brown leather upholstered armchairs
the ba3 marks ernest race’s debut for race furniture, a testament to ingenuity and resilience in post-war britain. Debuted at the 1946 “britain can make it” exhibition and awarded the gold medal at the 1954 milan triennale, this chair was revolutionary—crafted from salvaged fighter‑plane aluminium and parachute silk upholstery. One of the world’s first mass‑produced chairs, over 250,000 units were made by 1964, serving troopships and public institutions. Iconic artefacts now reside in moma and the v&a, while contemporary versions continue to grace restaurants, offices, and homes globally. Today’s ba3 retains its slim, elegant profile but with modern comfort and performance. It’s a visual bridge between industrial heritage and refined simplicity – perfect for café seating, breakout zones, public foyers, and corporate waiting rooms. We have cleaned waxed and polished them from top to bottom, there will be normal age and use related patina marks
