There is an additional beautiful drawing on the verso of the sheet showing decorations on the domed ceiling at St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City.Josef Kott ran a Vienna-based company, whose commissions included the interior painting of palaces and theatres across the Austro-Hungarian Empire. His contractors included the Künstler-Compagnie workshop artists Gustav Klimt, Ernst Klimt, and Franz Matsch. Kott's work was Historicist in style—heavily referencing styles of the past, such as Classicism and Renaissance painting, translating them into a contemporary grandiose opulence that served the needs of the Habsburg court.In pen and ink and watercolour with touches of gold paint on cream wove paper.Provenance: Ex Libris Anthony Denning.
