a rare drum cabinet or column cabinet from the biedermeier period, veneered in cherry wood, dating from the first half of the 19th century.

the square base of the piece rests on ebonized plinths. Rising from this is the cylindrical, single-door body of the cabinet, whose round top panel may have been used to display a bust or similar works of art.
the grain of the cherry wood is deliberately laid in a mirror-image pattern, creating a harmonious appearance that wraps around all visible surfaces. A blackened oval marks the spot where the key is inserted.

inside, the cabinet features a shelf as well as two storage areas on the curved inner side of the door.
the entire interior is painted white.

condition:
restored with a hand-applied shellac polish.
