A bookcase/wardrobe dating to the turn of the 20th century, crafted in a late Historicist style with Neoclassical influences.
A piece of furniture with impressive dimensions and noble proportions. The front features three large glazed doors, with three full-sized drawers situated below. The entire unit rests on turned legs and is topped with a molded cornice.
The bookcase was created from a former study cabinet, retaining the monumental character typical of furnishings found in offices, libraries, and bourgeois residences of the early 20th century.
The interior is fitted with shelves, ensuring high functionality while preserving the piece's historical aesthetic.
Dimensions:
237 cm wide
215 cm high
64–75 cm deep (at the central projection)
This piece makes for a striking and practical interior furnishing, combining utility with historical character.
It can also serve as a wardrobe for hanging clothes if the shelves are removed.
The central section of the back panel is not original but has been well-crafted as a replacement.
The entire unit can be dismantled using six screws. While the original screws and door locks have not survived, the doors open smoothly and easily (provided the floor is level).
The three lower drawers retain their original locks, though the keys are missing. The wardrobe is very easy to assemble with two people. For transport, however, it will be disassembled and packed into 3 or 4 packages due to its size and weight (approximately 120–150 kg). The entire unit has been cleaned of dust and debris—including the area beneath the base, the back, the interior, and the exterior—and the wood has been treated with several coats of an eco-friendly hard oil, resulting in a smooth, satin-matte finish. In person, the wardrobe looks even better than in the photos.
It can serve as a bookcase, a display cabinet, or a wardrobe where the contents are visible through the glass; it is also equipped with a rail for hanging clothes.
It is not merely a wardrobe or bookcase; it also functions as a display cabinet or showcase piece.
The glazed doors allow the contents to be seen, a feature characteristic of the impressive wardrobes and display cabinets from the turn of the 20th century.
