A rare 19th-century Ottoman Empire lidded terracotta vessel, hand-crafted in the historic Tophane district of Istanbul.
This beautifully proportioned piece features a stout, handled body and its original matching lid. The exterior is detailed with deeply impressed stamps, including circular accents, teardrop/heart motifs, and elegant geometric borders. The lid mirrors this craftsmanship with a stylized radial floral motif branching out from the central finial.
This style of fine, burnished redware was highly sought after throughout the Mediterranean and Europe in the 1800s, often utilized for serving spiced broths, coffee, or functioning as a decorative tobacco cellar. A wonderful addition to an eclectic collection of early European and Islamic pottery.

Dimensions: 4-7/8" height (including lid) x 3-1/2" diameter
Condition: Fair antique condition. Structurally solid and completely stable. There is a chip on the edge of the lid's top finial, and a small chip on the underside of the vessel's top rim. Please review all photos for an accurate look at these wear points.
