Constructed entirely from interwoven ribbon-like strips of hard white maple veneer — with no metal connectors — the Hat Trick is a feat of design engineering as much as a chair: the same slender wood strips form both the structure and the seat, giving the piece its remarkable lightness and gentle flex.

Inspired by the strength of the wooden bushel baskets and apple crates Gehry recalled from childhood, the design blurs the line between furniture and functional sculpture, and remains one of the most recognizable expressions of his furniture work. Both chairs are stamped on the underside with the Knoll logo and Frank Gehry's signature and dated 1990, confirming them as authentic, original-production examples from the collection's debut year. One chair looks to show some signs of former repair on bottom of seat but otherwise presents well.

This pair is in good vintage condition, showing the warm patina and light wear consistent with age and use, while retaining the design's signature airy, basket-like silhouette.
