A stunning, high-quality smoking set comprising a heavy ashtray and a box, crafted from hand-carved orange alabaster by Romano Bianchi (Italy, 1960s).
Naturally, these beautiful objects can serve other purposes as well: the ashtray works perfectly as a catch-all tray or trinket dish, while the lidded box is ideal for storing jewelry or small treasures.
Cigarette sales peaked in the 20th century; smoking was permitted in offices, cinemas, and restaurants—both indoors and out. Once women began smoking freely, the habit became a social norm, generally regarded as an act of elegance and sophistication. In the 1960s, businessmen were rarely seen without a cigarette in hand.
It goes without saying that one needed stylish smoking accessories for the desk or coffee table. These pieces are excellent examples of such high-quality, decorative accessories—items that certainly remain functional and appealing today.
In perfect vintage condition—no cracks, breaks, or chips; please see the photos for details.
Dimensions: box (LxWxH) 14x10x6 cm; ashtray (LxWxH) 19x18x5.5 cm.
Weight: box 0.850 kg; ashtray 2.474 kg.
