A very large Louis XV style overmantel mirror, made of giltwood and lacquered in pale green/cream, decorated with numerous rocaille ornaments, such as scrolls, foliage, shells, and other motifs.
It features two superimposed mirrors in a giltwood frame.
Intended to adorn the reception rooms of grand 19th-century homes, placed on a fireplace or console table, this large overmantel mirror contributed to the diffusion of light and the expansion of space, while also serving as a major element of the interior décor.
It will easily find its place in a classic or contemporary interior.
The overmantel mirror is mounted on an oak core. There is some wear, chips to the gilding and wood, two holes in the uprights (which were used for sconces), wear to the silvering, a modern upper mirror, and some old restorations.
