The high, curved backrest and the delicately carved crossbar create a calm, clearly proportioned design that gives the set a cohesive appearance. Historical context: Chairs with a curved high back and vase-shaped crossbar date back to the early 18th century and were revived in a historicist style towards the end of the 19th century. Such sets were part of the bourgeois dining room furnishings of this period, when uniform seating was considered an expression of orderly domesticity; the articulated back motif combined seating comfort with a representative effect in the communal space. Design: The set follows the Queen Anne design principles: curved backrests, a vase- or baluster-shaped crossbar, and S-shaped front legs. The design emphasizes lines and curves rather than flat ornamentation. The carving is limited to the knee section and remains subordinate to the contour.
