Removed from a private residence built in 1959, where it served as the original bedroom ceiling fixture until a later renovation, this dramatic double-glass design embodies the optimism and space-age styling of the late 1950s and early 1960s.
The fixture features a large clear glass outer saucer decorated with hand-applied gold fleck detailing around the interior perimeter and an abstract white starburst motif. Suspended within is a secondary white glass diffuser bowl, creating a layered illuminated effect and substantial visual presence even when unlit.
The design closely resembles documented Lightolier “Flying Saucer” and Pacemaker fixtures of the period and is offered as attributed to Lightolier based on comparable examples.
Retaining its original four-light cluster and porcelain sockets, this fixture presents beautifully as an architectural lighting statement for Mid-Century Modern, Atomic Age, Space Age, or Hollywood Regency interiors.
Condition
Very good vintage condition.
The outer glass bowl and inner diffuser are free of cracks and chips observed during inspection. Minor age-related wear consistent with normal use and vintage ownership. Original porcelain sockets and wiring remain intact. The fixture was operational when removed from the home; however, due to age, buyers may wish to have wiring inspected or updated prior to installation.
