Grise … Read more This is a fantastic Large Double-Sided Original Mixed Media Painting on Paper by Listed California Artist, Hendrik Grise (1914–1982). Grise was a prolific artist who participated in many of the major art movements of the mid-20th century. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the Dallas Museum School of Art before settling in Southern California in the late 1940s, where he consistently exhibited his work. He was friends with several artists associated with the New York School, including Mark Tobey, whose circle included Jackson Pollock. The influences of his era are evident in Grise's bold, expressive paintings.

This exceptional double-sided work presents two fully realized abstract compositions. One side features vibrant yellow, pink, and blue gestural calligraphic forms layered over an energetic field of splattered paint and expressive black marks. The reverse explodes with rich crimson, orange, cobalt blue, and black abstract forms that radiate across the paper with remarkable energy and movement. Both compositions stand on their own as finished works, allowing the collector to display whichever best suits the space or rotate the painting over time. Signed on both sides. Sold unframed. Provenance and Certification: We bought the bulk of Hendrick Grise's estate in 2015 and are beginning to market his works and introduce him more broadly to the public. The majority of the works in our collection have never been offered for sale. We have some of the BEST works by Grise that you will ever find. Each piece comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
