Dating to around the 1970s, this decorative architectural element showcases the rich craftsmanship and colourful aesthetic that have long characterised rajasthani design traditions. The finely pierced lattice is carved in a repeating geometric pattern, designed to allow light and air to pass through while maintaining privacy. At the centre sits a striking peacock motif, hand-painted in shades of blue, green, and gold. As india's national bird and a symbol of beauty, prosperity, and grace, the peacock is a recurring feature in the decorative arts of rajasthan. What makes this piece particularly distinctive is its wonderfully aged painted surface. Layers of faded terracotta, green, blue, and cream paint remain visible across the lattice and border, creating a rich patina developed over decades of use.
