A fully restored set of vintage 1950s mid century modern walnut dining chairs by Greta Grossman for Glenn of California. Born in Sweden in 1906, Grossman brought a Scandinavian sensibility to her works in the United States.
This design – one of her most iconic – features a floating pebble-shaped seat with raised knees and an open framework in front. Dual stretcher bars on the sides and rear provide structural stability, tapered on the ends to blend seamlessly with the frame. Floating, crescent-shaped seatbacks constructed from layers of bent walnut give the chair its distinctive look.
A portion of one of the original Glenn of California labels remains intact. The label shows “Glenn” along with the beginning of their factory’s address, which was located at 130 North First Avenue in Arcadia.
The set has been fully refinished and newly upholstered in a sage green chenille with 1.5” high density foam cushions.
