A striking piece of American studio ceramics with an unusually accomplished glaze treatment. The shallow catchall form features a heavily textured finger-pressed rim in iron brown, serving as a tactile border to an interior divided in a bold diagonal between a deep oxblood copper red and a crackled celadon that fades through ivory to a faint aqua at the rim. The two glazes meet in a feathered, painterly edge rather than a hard line, suggesting careful kiln management and a confident hand. Crackle crazing in the celadon field is intentional and characteristic of the technique, not damage.
The unglazed base is raw stoneware, marked with an artist’s brushed monogram cipher and the number 10. The piece reads equally well as a desk catchall, a jewelry or keys tray, or a standalone decorative object.
