The artwork features … Read more Traveling Man treasures is selling this vintage traditional Tanjore (Thanjavur) painting depicting the Hindu deity Lord Ganesha. The artwork features characteristic elements of classic Tanjore art, including the iconic relief gesso work layered with glittering 22-karat gold foil and embellished semi-precious stones. The artwork is in excellent condition, and the frame is in solid condition with signs of appropriate wear for its age (c. 1970s).

In the image, Lord Ganesha is depicted in a seated posture on an ornate golden throne under a decorative archway, holding traditional items like a bowl of modaks (sweets) and weapons. His vehicle, the Mushika (mouse), is visible at the bottom of the piece which was made in India; originating from the town of Thanjavur (historically anglicized as Tanjore) in the southern state of Tamil Nadu.
