A quality Italian giltwood wall mirror in the Louis XVI Neoclassical manner. The outer frame has a shaped outline characteristic of period taste, with chamfered corners and an elongated hexagonal silhouette. The crest carries a pineapple-and-flame finial above scrolled volutes, a motif associated with hospitality and abundance in the 18th century decorative tradition and as legible today as it was then. The flanking sides feature pierced cartouche ornaments with foliate detail, and the base terminates in a scrolled acanthus drop.
Construction is giltwood with composition ornament on the crest and cartouches. The gilding retains good color and coverage, with natural distressing at the high points. Made in Italy label present. A well-proportioned piece suited to a powder room, entry, or salon wall.
