Initially, I felt a strong resistance to painting them—their rigid, structural simplicity felt like a calling for more imagination. To balance their geometric stillness, I brought in my own cherished elements: a brilliant, round orange, a favorite textile pattern that I wanted to push into a more unexpected space, and a graphic mug featuring a piece of my daughter's own artwork. The deep, atmospheric background was a playful nod to a dark-background assignment my friend was working on that day, a prompt that unexpectedly launched an entirely new collection in my studio.

Looking at this canvas now, it carries a deep sense of nostalgia for me, evoking a classic mid-century memory of a teacher's desk from my childhood. I have kept this piece close in the studio, and it has become an anchor for a new, emerging collection of work.
