This mid-century wall plaque represents the "Louisburg" model, designed and produced during the 1950s by the Artistic Carving Company of Boston, Massachusetts. The piece is constructed from solid pine wood featuring a hand-carved, polychrome painted, and gilded finish modeled after the traditional 19th-century American folk art styles of John Haley Bellamy. Iconic patriotic design elements include a spread-wing eagle clutching a cluster of fletched arrows and a diagonal Union Liberty shield. The item exhibits a minor superficial wood separation along the shield's grain line and localized surface indentations, both of which are stable and entirely commensurate with the age and handling of a mid-century folk art piece - please see photos and video. Both the pass-through holes on the wing arcs and the flat reverse surface are factory-original features, designed to accommodate either a decorative nautical cording or a flush-wire installation. Display ready sculpture object.
