This 9x12 antique Doroksh rug is a marvelous addition to Rug & Kilim’s Antique collection; a masterpiece of Eastern Persian design, hand-knotted in wool and originating from Persia circa 1910-1920.
On the Design:
This antique Doroksh rug enjoys a distinguished marriage between sought-after, exceptionally rich colorway and a celebrated classic pattern. The central body orchestrates symphonic movement through an all-over array of repeating Shah Abbas palmettes, multi-tiered floral rosettes, and scrolling split-leaf arabesques that flow in continuous celebration. Guided by the celebrated Doroksh light theory, the fine-gauge knotting and precise juxtaposition of tones create an optical, shimmering luminosity across the canvas, making the textile feel fluidly translucent and dynamic depending on the ambient lighting. These sweeping narrative elements make it exceptionally suited for upscale traditional dining rooms, stately libraries, or formal living salons, where the botanical imagery fosters a contemplative atmosphere essential to luxury residential environments.
Though its elaborate, dense beauty and wide range of colors are among its chief beauties, keen eyes may further note the stately main border system orchestrating its own elegant finish. The guard lanes introduce rows of beautifully stylized, inward-facing paisley configurations nestled over an uncommon pistachio green and ochre track, providing a warm embrace and rhythmic punctuation that perfectly balances the central vinery. The sheer detail and variety are all the more impressive given the gently oxidized premium wool pile, which perfectly softens the intense crimson, soft rose pink, and cream color switches. This piece serves as a true exemplar of the lineage; teeming with the many beauties and qualities of its historic Khorasan provenance, which remains one of the most sought-after in both Persian city rugs and the full realm of Oriental rugs alike.
