Grise … Read more This is a very unique Large Original Mixed Media Painting on Paper by Listed California Artist, Hendrik Grise (1914-1982). Grise was a prolific artist who was part of many of the major art movements of the mid-20th Century. He studied at the Chicago Art Institute and the Dallas Museum School of Art before coming to Southern California in the late 1940s, where he consistently exhibited his work. He was friends with several artists from the New York School, including Mark Tobey who was close to Jackson Pollock. The influences of his time are clear in his bright, fluid works.

Flowing gestural forms in soft pinks, blues, greens, yellows, and black are layered over a richly textured background, creating a composition with movement, depth, and vibrant color. The sweeping central form and rhythmic brushwork give the piece a distinctive balance between spontaneity and structure.

Signed lower right. It is not dated but looks to have been done around 1970. Sold unframed. Will ship boxed to preserve integrity.

Provenance and Certification: We bought the bulk of Hendrick Grise's estate in 2015 and are beginning to market his works and introduce him more broadly to the public. The majority of the works in our collection have never been offered for sale. We have some of the BEST works by Grise that you will ever find. Each piece comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.

Condition: Good condition. Some minor creasing at corners. One 1" tear at top. Please see pictures. Priced with condition in mind.
