Antique Carved Oak Jacobean / Tudor-Style Overmantel Panel
Large hand-carved solid oak in the English Jacobean (Elizabethan Revival) taste, late 19th to early 20th century. A real statement piece — quarter-sawn oak with rich grain and a deep aged patina.
Densely carved across multiple registers: a central classical figure with sword in an arched niche, flanking lunette panels of stylized flowers in urns, a bird-and-grapevine frieze, crossed-stem strawberry-leaf relief, rosettes, fans and palmettes, and a pair of projecting cherub-head corbel brackets. Flanking reeded pilasters.
Solid, characterful and impossible to fake the age of. Would suit a period home, library, bar, restaurant, or film/set work.

- Solid and structurally sound, with the rich dark patina and honest wear you'd expect from a piece of this age. … moreSolid and structurally sound, with the rich dark patina and honest wear you'd expect from a piece of this age. The carving is crisp and intact throughout, including the high-relief fruit swags and the projecting cherub corbels. There are some shrinkage cracks and fine grain splits in the field panels — most visibly a vertical split through the central arched flower-vase panel — which are normal in old oak and don't affect stability. Expect light surface rubbing to raised high points and an even, time-darkened finish across the whole panel. Overall a characterful, well-preserved example shown honestly in the photos. less
