The slender, high-legged construction appears clearly proportioned and subtly structured, with the turned legs lending the structure a calm verticality. Historical context: small, two-tiered side tables of this type were common in the furnishings of bourgeois salons and reception rooms in the late 19th century. They served as display and presentation furniture for plants, vases, or decorative objects and complemented larger seating groups. The hand-painted floral design reflected the taste of the belle époque, during which naturalistic floral motifs were widespread in interior design. The light, high-legged construction allowed for flexible placement within the room. Design: the table belongs to the belle époque and reflects its preference for light, decoratively finished furniture. The design combines a simple, geometric form with a painterly surface treatment. The twisted, bamboo-like legs give the structure a pronounced verticality, while the curved corners of the tabletops soften the strict lines.
