The picture shows a little girl playing with a cat and a spinning woman sitting next to her. The scene was presented inside a bourgeois house, furniture and kitchen appliances emerging from a dark background. The figures in the foreground are the brightest elements of the picture. A little girl in a golden dress holds a kitten in her arms, she is staring at her companion. The woman sitting to her right looks at the child with a smile. She holds a spindle with a spool of cotton in her hands. The woman is dressed in a dark green floral shirt and a long red skirt also decorated with a floral motif, over which a yellow fabric has been applied with a decorative frill at the bottom. The woman's arms are covered with a yellow scarf.

The painting is dominated by warm colors of yellow, red and brown. The composition is very dark, only the main characters are illuminated.

The whole composition is complemented by a gilded, heavily decorated frame. The corners of the frame and its central parts are covered with rich ornamental decorations. See less
