Painter, draftsman, printmaker, sculptor.
1906–12 Studied sculpture at the art academies in Aachen, Liège, Brussels, and Düsseldorf
Resident in Düsseldorf from 1911
After the First World War, he was in the circle of “Mother Ey” and had contact with numerous modern artists; Active exhibition record
1929 Trip to the South of France
from 1933, Ludwigs was dependent on welfare
1937 Imprisonment for alleged “preparation for high treason”
from 1942, increasingly active in political resistance
In February 1943, re-arrested and died during his imprisonment
