This exceptional antique 19th-century Japanese Sanda Ware figurine dates to the late Edo period and is expertly crafted by the renowned potter Kinkodo Kisuke. The piece depicts a seated wise man or immortal figure adorned in traditional flowing robes and an elaborate, tall official's hat, showcasing the magnificent, glossy olive-green celadon glaze characteristic of authentic Sanda ceramics. The unglazed facial features, hands, and feet display remarkably expressive and finely detailed textures, lending immense character and realism to the subject's serene smile and long beard. As pictured, the hollow-base sculpture is beautifully preserved, featuring faint, age-appropriate crazing under the glaze and stunning incised cloud patterns on the headwear that highlight its meticulous hand-carved artistry.

This Japanese celadon ceramic seated immortal figure is in generally good antique condition with age-appropriate wear and some notable damage. However, there is a prominent break on the figure's right hand, where the object he was holding has been broken off and is missing, leaving a rough, exposed unglazed ceramic surface at the wrist, as pictured. Additionally, there is a visible chip and minor loss at the very tip of his long beard, alongside some generalized surface dirt and minor scuffing to the unglazed bisque sections of the face and beard, as pictured. The unglazed base shows expected shelf wear, firing imperfections, and minor discoloration consistent with age, but remains structurally sound, as pictured. The light green celadon glaze remains highly glossy with inherent fine crazing throughout the surface, as pictured. In consideration of any purchase it is recommended that the zoom tool be used to thoroughly inspect all the photos. Sold as preowned and as pictured. No box. No COA. The price reflects the damages. less
