An exceptionally rare and historically important pair of Murano glass wall sconces designed by Carlo Scarpa for Venini during the 1930s, documented in the Venini Luce catalogue as model 5777 (page 597). These refined shell-shaped appliques embody the poetic balance between innovation, craftsmanship, and architectural restraint that would become one of Scarpa's defining signatures. The shades are executed in the celebrated Reticello technique, one of the most sophisticated and recognizable glassmaking methods ever developed on Murano and closely associated with Scarpa's pioneering work at Venini. The delicate crossed lattice, suspended within the glass itself, creates a mesmerizing optical texture that transforms the appearance of the surface according to light and viewpoint. Under illumination, the reticello pattern reveals remarkable depth, while in daylight it retains a quiet, sculptural presence. Their elegant shell form rises from a narrow pointed base and gently opens upward, evoking natural marine forms while maintaining the geometric purity characteristic of early Venetian modernism. The softly translucent glass diffuses light with extraordinary subtlety, producing a warm and atmospheric glow. Particularly noteworthy is the extraordinary degree of hand craftsmanship still visible in the pieces. One shade retains a small adjustment made by the master glassblower during the final stages of production — not a defect, but rather a precious testimony to the entirely handmade process and a tangible trace of the artisan's intervention. The second shade presents a very small and nearly imperceptible chip, visible only upon close inspection, which does not affect structural integrity, functionality, or aesthetic appreciation. The mounting system is remarkably minimal: the glass shades simply rest on and are secured by a discreet hooked support, emphasizing a sense of visual lightness and allowing the glass itself to remain the undisputed protagonist. The original brass backplates and fittings have developed a beautiful natural patina over time, complementing the understated sophistication of the design. Museum-worthy in both rarity and significance, this pair represents an outstanding opportunity to acquire an authentic example of Carlo Scarpa's early lighting designs for Venini, combining historical importance, documented provenance, and exceptional artistic quality
