The sculpture is characterized by its striking frontal gaze, stylized facial features and deeply carved beard, preserving significant areas of its original polychromy with a naturally aged surface developed over centuries. The expressive eyes and simplified modeling are characteristic of early devotional sculpture created for churches and private chapels throughout New Spain. The head is presented on a later custom display stand. Surface wear, craquelure and small losses are consistent with its considerable age and contribute to the sculpture's authenticity and historical presence. Dimensions: 27 cm high; 11 cm wide; 12 cm deep. See less
