An exceptional and highly sculptural ceramic coffee table attributed to the renowned ceramic workshops of Vallauris in the South of France, dating from the 1960s. Remarkable for its monumental architectural pedestal base executed entirely in glazed ceramic, this rare example represents a far more ambitious and uncommon approach than the majority of Vallauris tables of the period, which typically combine ceramic tops with wrought iron or wooden supports. The sculptural pedestal transforms the piece from a functional table into a true work of ceramic art. The circular top is decorated with an expressive hand-painted bird motif rendered in warm ochre, black, ivory, and earthy brown tones. The composition reflects the poetic nature-inspired aesthetic that became synonymous with the finest ceramic production emerging from Vallauris during the post-war decades. Richly textured glazes, subtle tonal variations, and handcrafted details reveal the artisanal character for which the region achieved international recognition. What distinguishes this example is the remarkable dialogue between the decorated top and the substantial pedestal base. The ceramic support possesses a strong architectural quality while maintaining a distinctly Mediterranean warmth. Viewed from every angle, the table functions simultaneously as furniture and sculpture. Examples featuring both a ceramic top and a fully realized ceramic pedestal base are encountered only rarely on today's international market. Their limited production, technical complexity, and inherent fragility have resulted in relatively few surviving examples, making this a particularly desirable acquisition for collectors of French decorative arts and important mid-century design. An impressive statement piece ideally suited for sophisticated residential interiors, curated collections, boutique hospitality projects, and architecturally significant spaces.
