A wonderful large pair of Bjorn Wiinblad ceramic figural candlesticks with removable inserts, full of the whimsical detail and personality his work is known for. Each piece is modeled as a stylized female figure with floral decoration, soft pastel coloring, and a broad hat-form top fitted with a cylindrical insert. They can work as candlesticks with the inserts in place, but they also display beautifully as sculptural decorative objects on their own.
These have a great presence because of their scale and the amount of hand-painted detail throughout, from the expressive faces and patterned bodices to the floral and foliate decoration around the hats and bodies. They are playful and highly decorative, but still have that unmistakable Scandinavian studio ceramics feel that makes Wiinblad pieces so collectible.
