Once the epicenter of New York City nightlife, El Morocco was the place to see and be seen. Founded in 1931 by John Perona, the legendary speakeasy-turned-supper club welcomed an extraordinary roster of guests, including Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, Elizabeth Taylor, and countless socialites, entertainers, and dignitaries. Known for its iconic zebra-striped décor, champagne room, and lively dance floor, El Morocco remained one of Manhattan’s most celebrated nightspots until its closure in 1969.
